There is darkness/death but light/Jesus overcame it. We are not the light Jesus is the light but he shines through us so through him we can overcome darkness. Not by our own power but by the power of God. We want to follow Jesus and become children of God. Jesus is the bridge to salvation how we get there, like when you get a cross and walk across it the cross symbolises Jesus the true path!
John is baptizing people and they ask if he is the Messiah he says no! Then comes Jesus and John explains that he is the Messiah and is Holy. News of Jesus starts spreading everywhere its really interesting how he slowly gains followers.
Why is Jesus called the son of man?

Tanner, to answer your question about why Jesus calls Himself the "Son of Man" I found this site: www.desiringgod.org/interviews/why-is-jesus-called-son-of-man But basically it is debated among Bible scholars, but it is the thing that Jesus calls Himself the most. Most think that it is used in a way that Jesus is claiming to be human. But we also know that Jesus claims to be the "Son of God" too. Which would mean He is God a well. So I think the phrases "Son of Man" and "Son of God" Jesus uses just shows that He was fully man and fully God as well. I like this chapter. It reminds me of Bible school last week. John the Baptist came before Jesus to prepare the way for Him. Like Tanner said John was not the Messiah and did not claim to be. Jesus is the Messiah the people have been waiting for!

First all love the question and all. thats the way things should be and to get answers and very well found dustin and good link to it and all.
We have all heard 1 before and just a nice reminder of everything. The word was Gods and the word with was him and that Jesus was there from the start as well as we talked about a couple weeks ago in sunday school. Everything is created for him and to please him and bring him glory and honor and we should all worship him. Telling about the start of John and that some people thought he was the light to come but really he was just the one to help witness to the light like we are all called to do. There were some thought that thought John was really great and the next great things but he did humble himself and knew his place.
John knew his place and his role and think that often times we don't always know it. we try to take a bigger part than what we really should and try to take the glory from Him. Like john John we are all give then right by GOD himself he is the one that gives us the power to preach and tell about the Good News.
Who are your disciples (who are you talking to and helping along the way) or who are your friends that you "walk together with"?

Eternal life only comes from having trust in the Lord. True believers have Gods light shining through them and are not in the darkness. Like Tanner said we can overcome darkness not with our power but by the power of the Lord. Jesus is our guide through life. He will help us on our roller coaster of life.
