This chapter is about finding fulfillment in something other than God. 4:2 is about coveting wanting something someone else has and you're jealous. James 4:3 you ask and you don't receive because you ask wrongly. We ask for things that we think will fulfill us. In this chapter everyone is envying with others. Anybody who chooses to be a friend of the world is an enemy of God which means worshiping other idols. It talks about judgement towards others. Some of this chapter ties in with chapter 3 the judgement part. You can judge others with the same tongue you worship God with. The last part is about boasting. Which is talking about yourself like "self worship".

Some times we ask God for things and wonder why we don't get them. We do not receive these things because they are of the world. 4 says that any thing of the world is God's enemy. 6 says "God opposes the proud and shows favor to the humble." All of us are dirty sinners that need to wash our hands, make our hearts pure. We are dirty in sin and impurity. We have nothing worthy of pride.Who are we to judge others. Humble to god and praise him then he will give you worth.
You can't boast about tomorrow. How do you know what will happen. how can you have pride about something if you have not even done it yet.

Both found some good points. Asking and we don't receive and what Emma said just reminded me of like when we would ask someone if we can go to the bathroom? Well can you? the question is fine and is what you want to know or do but sometimes we "word" it the wrong way. God sees things differently and sees the whole picture and sometimes we just have the wrong motives for things. We have do nothing to be prideful about. Everything we do is given to us by God. He is the only one that can boast, and should be the only one that we boast about. Often times we take his joy away from Him because that his what he has given us.
