John 16 is about Jesus speaking to his disciples about his return to the Father. The disciples are then again confused. Jesus said that in a little while they will not see Him again. Jesus has warned and continually told his disciples that he was soon to leave. They are still at the last supper in this chapter and Judas has left to betray Jesus. Talked about betrayal a little during vbs. The disciples are sad that Jesus was thinking that someone was gonna betray him. Jesus knows that they are gonna suffer. The world will rejoice even when and during their suffering. They will know when Jesus comes. The joy when Jesus returns cannot be taken away from anyone or anything. This is real and pure joy. Jesus told the disciples again that they can call the Lords name and he will answer anything you have for him. This is because the disciples understood and believed in Jesus and in the Lord. The disciples are to leave God alone and let him depart. He is going to a place where they cannot follow. The disciples are not alone they have God with them at all times and so do we!

Jesus has left this place and gone to heaven he sent the holy spirit to guide us along the way. The Holy Spirit can only tell us what Jesus has told him to tell us. Jesus told them that in a little while they would not see Jesus then they would see him. This made no sense to them. They never totally understood what he was talking about until the death and the resurrection of Jesus.
I wonder why he spoke in figures of speech I guess that the truth told in spiritual ways was too hard to comprehend.
The battle is won there is no battle to be fought now Jesus has overcome death all we need to do is believe that and tell others.

I know its been said before but this morning when reading "this is because they have never known the father or me" I think that there are many times in my life that I think people do things that they think are right but they really aren't because they don't know the Father. Its just a false sense and even often times they do maybe "know" the Father but aren't close to him or don't actually have an ongoing relationship with him. We are called to Abide and be a part of Christ as in 15- and that means being with him continually!! This is sort of what I said at camp to some of the people- we (the disciples) lost Jesus someone to follow but they gained the Holy Spirit the one who is with them at all times. Yes Jesus is easier to follow because he is there with you but he can't be with us all the time so actually better now that we have the Holy Spirit. When we read it its not a confusing as when it was the actual time- its like watching a movie for the first time you kind of wonder and anticipate what might happen and try to connect and put the pieces together as it goes but the second time (like we read it now because we know the whole story) its far less complicated to understand because we know what happens. There is going to be grieving and morning but when Jesus returns to them they will experience the joy. They will be alone and scatter to other people but they really aren't alone because they have the Holy Spirit in them. We often times go into the "world" alone and need that first follower to help guide us and lead
