Chapter 1 tells about the blessings that the followers of God recieve and the joy of fellow shipping with each other. In the whole book of 1 John a key thing in all of the chapters is honesty. John wrote about Christ and believing in him as your savior. He also talks about being honest with yourself. At least for me if I am not honest with myself I feel guilty or like I did something wrong. To be honest with yourself it's like comparing light and darkness. If you live in the light you should have nothing to do with the darkness without making yourself into a liar John said. John is asking for you to like examine yourself. He asks to look at your hearts and minds and see if that reminds you of pure thoughts and good intentions. If they were really Christians they would do selfless acts. This does not mean that you as a Christian are not able to be without fault if that makes sense. If you do sin just know that you are wrong and don't do it again, simple! It's really not. We are all human and we all make mistakes and we are not perfect. Although myself I do like being perfect but can't do that! You only learn from you mistakes. Even God doesn't want you to be perfect. There are people out there that try to be a 'Perfect Christian.' God doesn't want that! He wants you to know and believe and trust in him but he doesn't want you to be perfect! The humans that are flawed have a hard time staying on the Lord's righteous path. But on their journey of knowing God, they do understand the important task of true believers like forgiveness, faith and trust towards the Lord.

Just like Emma said, we are to live in the light as Christians and follow Jesus and show that we know Him. But it still doesn't mean we are perfect, we will sin and if we claim we don't sin, we are a liar.
I especially like verse 9, where our days if we confess with our mouth our sin, Jesus will forgive us. That is a huge statement. Whatever we do against God, if we ask for His forgiveness He will grant it.

God is God there is no way of denying it at all!!
We have to be honest with ourselves and God, we all sin it's human nature. Denying that you sin to God is ridiculous he already knows that you sin. Confess your sins to God so that you can receive forgiveness. You can never mess up so badly that you can not ask for forgiveness. God loves you through everything just trust he knows what is best.

Like what you said Emma and that I know as we continue and yes strive to be perfect and all. A lot of people think Christians should be perfect and then we get this name of hypocrite when we aren't perfect. I know that we have to try to live a life that is Honorable to God but being perfect is out of the question and we need to be able to admit that to people and its okay for people to see us fail and make mistakes- thats part of life. Its what we do after that if we continue to do so or if we learn and try to correct it. Really like this living in the light and has been the main thing on my mind and thinking to be theme for next year for me. We are called to live in the light and reflect God. There is no darkness in God and we are called to live in the light as God is in the light. We must admit that we are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. We must be able to confess our sins to him once we do make a mistake this means that we are aware of it and feel guilty of it. 8-10 are good verses!
