This is Jonahs prayer to the Lord and its pretty simple to be honest. Its telling the story about what happened and as he was thrown into the waters and the feelings he had. With this we know that Jonah at least still know God and felt him there with him. We know that Jonah did trust in God but it was just a "little late." He didn't full trust in the plan that he had. I wonder how long it took him to pray because it sounds like it was like day 3- that he finally prayed and then the whale spit him out. We have the choice like Jonah to try to do things our way which ends up being painful and hard or look to God and his way and receive his blessing. Should be an easy decision but its not. But sometimes these paths we do take end up bringing us back or closer to God we just don't want to get to far onto our own and totally lose sight of God.
I know if it were me i would be wondering where I was at? And maybe thats why it took him some time to pray because I would be freaking out and wondering what really happened to me? Do you think Jonah actually knew where he was? In the belly of a fish at the time?

We kind of need to let go of our pride like in this prayer. Tell God you are in trouble and need him. We have to humble ourselves and realise that God is the only one that can save us.
If I were Jonah I would be freaking out too I wonder why they skipped on the details so much.

In chapter 2 Jonah prayed-God had the whale cough him up 3 days later. He coughed him up on dry land. Jonah obeyed God, and headed to Nineveh to fulfill his mission. Jonah heard the voice of the Lord. He knew that he would soon be delivered from the whales stomach. Jonah knew that the Lord had heard him before he heard the Lords voice. This shows that Jonah had faith in the Lord. In the rest of the chapter Jonah repeats some of the Psalms. This also shows that he knows God's word by heart and does not fake it to make it. There was no bible or candle to see in the whales stomach. He was in complete darkness. But there is no darkness in the world of you let the Lords light shine through you.
