Sometimes it takes a second chance to figure it out and to truly listen to what God is telling us. Even though we maybe don't like the person or people, just a Jonah didn't like the people of Nineveh. Most of the time it's the tough road is the one we are called walk, it's not easy but when challenges come our way that is when we grow. The easy way we don't really ever learn or grow. It was a very large city and like the analogy that Emma used that the whale was dark for Jonah and the city of Nineveh was dark with sin. The time is always good for us and Jonah preached his message and the people listen to him. They wanted to change. Sometime people are better than we think but just haven't heard the news or had an ultimatum to change. It was just the people but the king as well. The whole city wanted to change and God has mercy on them. He shown favor and even though God wanted to destroy the city they changed and pleaded and intervened with God and changed his mind

In chapter 3 Jonah realizes that it's not the crew that throws him over board it is Jesus. Jonah also realizes he has not been out of Jesus' hands although he tried to run from him. You can't do that he will always be there, there is no way to escape that! Jonah biggest pain was the like separation or barrier between him and God. He thought that he was a cast out from God if that makes any sense. He was determined even in the whale that he would soon find and remember God and turn his heart toward him. Jonah's life had a slump or hole in his life that he has fallen into. Jonah prayed to God and he had been taken out of the slump and/or hole in his life.

Running from God is like running on a treadmill you can run all you want but you're never going to get anywhere. I really like what you said Emma if you try to get away from God all those blessings that he offers are no longer with you.
This is a great example of why you should not juge people. The people were sinners at first but with Jonah leading them in the right direction they changed. Instead of judging them think "how can I help?".
