Paul talks about the joy in Christ again like chapter 3. He then again tells followers to rejoice in the lord. And to offer praise and give God thanks. It also shows rejoicing in the lord brings peace. Paul says verse 4:13 bc he is not really encouraging Christians to conquer the world but when the world conquers them if that makes sense. 4:13 means just what it says. Paul says in verse 4:11 "I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content." And it basically ties in with 4:13. Bc you can do all things through christ.

Yes we have been talking alto about this chapter and have focused on the first pat. The last part talks about being content in whatever we have. We need to thank him for the little things in our lives and be content with all that we have. We need not to compare to others what they have which is a hard part of todays society. We focus on others and what others have and often forget about the things we have. I know for me I can reflect and thank God for the big things but sometimes the every day things that God has give us are just as important. Whatever we have and whatever we do, if we give thanks to him, he will help give us the strength we need.

the mood is so much different than some of the other things I've been reading in James. Paul is not nearly as harsh and is more just giving thanks to God.

Yes. Paul is writing this letter to the Philippines while James wrote the other. They both write very different. Philippines actually is the one of Pauls writings that gives a lot of "complements" and such. All of the other books that we read as we will see he comes and tells them to stop turn away from this stop doing that. Yet the church in Philipi "had it together" pretty well. Paul can be a pretty harsh guy just wait till we read some of his other writings.
