God realizes the people that need him the most here in the first section of verses (the beatitudes) They show us what God desires of us and they way that he wants us to lives. Want to live humbly and with justice and mercy pure of heart. 11 talking about basically how tough it is to be a follower really makes an impact to me and to who we are. Its not going to be easy and people are going to mock us and lie about it and not like on top of these things he already ask aren't hard enough. But when people do this we often times get defensive and upset about it, but God says in verse 12 to be Happy about it. I don't know about you but don't think i have ever been real happy about it. But the reward that waits is well worth it in heaven.
The second part is where our theme verses are from and talking about salt and light and how they can be really useful or not at all just depending on how they are used. We will talk a lot more about these verses this year. We are called to be a light and be a little salty. We want the let the world see what we have and make the place a bit better tasting just like salt. We should feel as though we have been privileged to share the news and be the light but so often times we do hid it.
We see that Jesus didn't come to get rid of the old law, its still needed but he came to set a new law through him. We need to obey all of Gods laws for they are all equal (James) and its the same god who gave us them all. If we do this and obey and teach others we will be called great in the kingdom of heaven and if anything thats the place i would want to be great in.
I think 21-26 really hits me as it is one thing that leads to another and though i do sin a majority of my sins start with anger. Once angry then it boils to something else and i can't stand it. If we have issues with anybody we need to settle them quickly and not let them get drawn out. We about the same thing but now with lust. Its better to cast aside one part of the body that is causing you to do what we shouldn't. I think of friends in a way as well, that if one friend is causing you to do wrong then get rid of them, better to do that than to lose your whole soul. We need to protect ourselves with friends and out body from all sorts of stuff. We don't want anything that leads us down the path of temptation, because its gonna cause us to do worse later one. Sin usually starts small and works bigger. We see some talk on divorce and how important it is to remain faithful in marriage and i will even say for most of you guys a dating type life and to remain true and faithful to each other. I know its not a major deal, but if start to do it early it will only lead further down the path later on.
We see talking about vows or promises- and what to make them or how to make them. Its rather simple of what is expected of us- to just say yes or no will work don't have to say anything else. We don't need to swear by something or do anything- does that really make it any better? Or just make it sound like we are more serious? If we are trustworthy and all it doesn't matter a simple yes or no does work.
38-41 is talking about revenge and going the extra mile, literally. If someone does something bad to you instead of trying to get even with them, turn walk away and show them how tough you actually are. Turning your cheek within context has a lot more into that would love to dive into sometimes. We should always do more than what is asked of us.
LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, PRAY FOR THEM. one of the hardest things but it changes your mind set and really makes you care for that person. They are still in the image of God and are a special person and need to show them love.
